DIY Green Pool Fix

We recommend a measured dose of an unstabilised chlorine such as Pool Master Liquid Chlorine, Pool Master Shock Dose, Pool Master Pool Chlor Granules. or HTH Pool Chlorine Granules supplemented with Algon’s Algatac.  This is a double action attack – eradicating algae swiftly and successfully.

If your Cyanuric Acid (stabiliser) level is low, you will get excellent results by using Spa Master Super Chlor as your pool shock/oxidiser, add 200grams per 10,000L.

(Note: Never drain a pool without seeking your pool manufacturer’s advice first – it could ‘pop’ out of the ground and be totally destroyed!)

Today:

1. Balance your pool water – using test strips or test kit, ensure the pH is between 7.4 and 7.6, and Total Alkalinity is in range 80-120ppm – add balancing products as appropriate.
2. Empty Skimmer baskets of debris
3. Empty Lint pot of debris
4. Backwash and rinse filter (or clean cartridge filters using Spa Master Cartridge Cleaner)
5. Set pump to be operational 24hours per day
6. For Salt Pools – increase chlorine output on controller.
7. If shock treatment and algaecide products are on hand, do the following:
   1. Shock/oxidise your pool following instructions on label
   2. Add algaecide, Algon’s Algatac following instructions on label.

If no shock/oxidiser or algaecide are on hand, repeat steps 1-6 daily until products arrive.

When products arrive:

Day One

1. Balance your pool water again – ensure the pH is between 7.4 and 7.6, and Total Alkalinity is in range 80-120ppm
2. Empty Skimmer baskets of debris
3. Empty Lint pot of debris
4. Backwash and rinse filter (or rinse cartridge filters)
5. Ensure pump is operational 24hours per day
6. Shock/oxidise your pool following instructions on label

Day Two

1. Morning: Balance your pool water – ensure the pH is between 7.4 and 7.6, and Total Alkalinity is in range 80-120ppm
2. Test and ensure Free Chlorine is 3 or higher, add chlorine as required
3. Empty Skimmer baskets of debris
4. Empty Lint pot of debris
5. Scrub walls and floor with brush on pole or set robotic pool cleaner for long cycle
6. Afternoon: Vacuum pool to waste (if no robotic cleaner)
7. Backwash and rinse filter (or rinse cartridge filters)
8. Add algaecide, Algon’s Hotzone Algaecide following instructions on label.
9. Add Spa Master Spa and Pool Clarifier to pool following instructions on label

Day Three

1. Morning: Balance your pool water – ensure the pH is between 7.4 and 7.6, and Total Alkalinity is in range 80-120ppm
2. Test and ensure Free Chlorine is 3 or higher, add chlorine as required
3. Empty Skimmer baskets of debris
4. Empty Lint pot of debris
5. Scrub walls and floor with brush on pole or set robotic pool cleaner for long cycle.
6. Afternoon: Vacuum pool to waste (if no robotic cleaner)
7. Backwash and rinse filter (or clean cartridge filters using Spa Master Cartridge Cleaner
8. Add additional Spa Master Spa and Pool Clarifier to pool following instructions on label.

Day Four

If pool is still cloudy:

Repeat days one, two, and three, until clear.

When pool is clear:

1. Backwash and rinse filter (or clean cartridge filters using Spa Master Cartridge Cleaner
2. Turn pump back to correct daily duration – approx. 10-12 hours summer, 4-6 hours winter
3. Consider the weekly addition of Spa Master Spa and Pool Clarifier and monthly addition of Algon’s Hotzone Algaecide for sparkling, clear, healthy water.
4. Remember, all of this can be avoided by ensuring your pump operates for more hours in the spring and summer, your filter is clean, the water is balanced, chlorine levels are maintained, and algaecide is added regularly according to the recommendations on the label. Your pool healthy, sparkling clear and free of algae!
